You know how people on Instagram make nail decals look so easy? They give you this sped up version of a paint-by-numbers project and suddenly their nail has the most perfect decal ever. It's usually not like that unless you are a magician. I've attempted decals so many times and failed that it's almost unbelievable that I kept trying to make it work. I'm going to show you my second successful nail decal, and give you a few tips on how to make your own.

Bohemian Polish- Furry Little Problem Solver, Liquid Luck, See No Dreams, Steal Your Face UberChic Beauty 1-01

This turned out way nicer than all of my failed attempts. I'm not going to tell you how many hours I've spent practicing this technique. I do it all for you guys in the hopes that you might get it right the first time.

Products used

  • Bohemian Polish- Furry Little Problem Solver, Liquid Luck, See No Dreams, Steal Your Face
  • Bohemian Polish- Flash Dry
  • UberChic Beauty- UC 1-01
  • UberChic Beauty- UberMat
  • Sinful Colors- Black on Black

Decal tips

  • Apply a wide swatch of top coat to your UberMat so you have enough placement options.
  • After you pick up your stamp, gently roll your stamper until it's flat on the mat. Instead of following through with that motion (eg from right to left) rock the stamper back to the initial starting point. For example: if you first made contact on the right side rock it back to the right side. The idea behind this is that you don't want any static in the air to accidentally lift up your decal. I've ruined many decals that way.
  • Pick colors that are opaque (or nearly opaque) in one coat to fill in your blank spaces. If your polish isn't dark enough you may have to paint over it multiple times.
  • Cold air seems to impact the flexibility of the nail decals. When possible avoid extreme temperatures. Either extreme can cause the nail decal to crack or tear.
That wraps up my knowledge of nail decals. Do you have any tips you can share? Leave me a comment below!
